Theodore Charles Scheidel, Jr.

Theodore Charles Scheidel, Jr.I believe that we have an excellent educational system in Region 10, and I am running for the Board of Education to help maintain this position.
Since returning from Vietnam in 1967, I have been active in town affairs. I graduated from Lewis S. Mills High School in 1962 as a member of its first graduating class.
I was elected to the Board of Selectmen in 1973, and then as the First Selectman in 1981, retiring in 2007. Since that time, I have been attending nearly all of the regular Board of Education meetings, budget meetings, and hearings.
I am an avid supporter of programs at Lewis S. Mills, in education, sports, and the arts. I attend nearly every home game of the boys varsity and junior varsity basketball teams.
I have also been a strong supporter of the Mills band program, and regularly support the school annual scholarship drive.
Since its inception, I have been a financial supporter and regular attendee of the the LSM Crew races.
I am on the Board of Trustees of Tunxis Community College, and have been a strong proponent working to keep the Bristol Vocational-Agricultural School open.
I believe that in preparing budgets, the Board of Education has to keep in mind the financial picture of the town as a whole. I also believe that we have to constantly improve our communication skills with the general public, including but not limited to Town officials at all school events.
I believe that the general public should be kept in mind when bargaining annual union contracts with Region 10 employees. I am looking forward to serving the Town of Burlington once again.
